That Bergkamp goal v Newcastle is one oof my favourite goals of all time. Absolutely astounding. Great player but also a snidey player who was more than capable of a few sly digs and kicks.

agree about the snidey bit, for years I didn't like, but it passed with every great assist and goal

Who's the beaut who said Ashton wasn't a good striker. I keep getting ye mixed up. He would be brilliant playing off of Torres.

JJ reckons he's not good, I think he's top notch, if he can stay fit for a run of games we'll see that

Just watched Bergkamp against Argentina again!!Fuck me,as a United fan it almost pains me to say this,a fucking genius.I remember watching that game and I thought the dutch were going to win the world cup after getting past the Argies. It's definitely my favourite ever non-United related goal,by what can only be described as an artist, but a bit of a dirty bastard as well, what a combination! Dean Ashton is right up there with him!!! Is'nt he Mark?!!!!

Ashton is a mid table striker, a very poor man's Yakubu. As a side note, anybody else think jermaine defoe's best years are behind him?

Unknown said...

ashton is currently a mid-table striker but has great potential.

so when were defoe's best years? I seem to have missed it....

after a bit of research: 105 appearances for West Ham, scoring 41 times...

his record for Spurs is skewed as he is mostly on the bench, but it's still not great. he's a good striker but I'm not convinced at all

Indeed, there was a a pretty big desire for him to be good in press circles as england needed a back up mickey owen as the real one is always injured. Likely to be the next darius vassell.
