The hat trick...

Howdy folks,

Three Robbie Keane pics in a week, we apologise but this time it's certainly warranted. A few things...

- It was never a sending off.

- McShane should NEVER play at full back again.

- Trapattoni's substitutions were excellent, and no one - not Eamonn Dunphy, not Johnny Giles, nor any other soul alive - will convince me otherwise. Doyle was knackered and did nothing up to being taken off; Noel Hunt got into the game straight away while Gibson brought energy to the midfield. Folan meanwhile... well he set up this. (Is it just me or does it look like Hunt got the goal by the way? Weird.)

- Billo, while forever King of the Okeydokefootball has really got to defer to Giles or whoever else is on the RTE panel a lot more often, instead of looking to Eamonn for the easy soundbite. Dunphy is on a mission and it's one based in stubbornness and perhaps a sense of boredom rather than anything else. When your opinions starting matching up with that little sleazeball Brian Kerr, you've got issues Eamonn.

In Trap we trust, bring on Sofia.

Later, JJ

Keane is doing great, could believe people on radio this morning giving out about his goal celebration. WTF. He was delighted he scored and saved Ireland's ass. Again. I've disliked Keane in the past, but he's been great this campaign. 38 goals in 88 games for Ireland.

Why oh why did'nt we play like that last Saturday night?
You have to give credit to Trapattoni for geting the team right eventually, but the starting eleven was at the very least questionable. I agree with Dunphy on one thing, Keogh should'nt be anywhere near this Irish team. As for Keane, apart from the goal I thought he was one of Irelands poorer players on the night and on Saturday but he generally works hard and takes a chance when it comes to him.
Don't forget, Dunphy was the one who was creaming himself when Trap got the job in the first place, now it seems he wants him out.And if Dunphy makes his mind up about something he won't shut the fuck up about it even if Ireland topped the group.

p.s."McShane should never play at full back again"....take the words at,full and back out of that sentence and I'll agree with you!!

Mark: what were they saying about Keane's celebration?

today fm were supposedly getting some texts in saying that he was too cocky or something. And some people checking out youtube hoping hunt got it instead.

How was it different to any other Robbie Keane celebration? And what the hell is wrong with these people? They should just revel in the goal, ffs.

hopefully some other people heard it, and will clarify exactly what they were saying, 'twas about 8.15. I was driving at the time so not 100% concentrated

I think it's mainly knobends who rarely watch football. Idiots who were getting their 'I always said Ireland and Trapattoni were crap' pub stool speeches ready when Keane ruined their little moment by scoring.

There should be some sort of an entrance exam before people are allowed to watch the game these days.

entrance exam:
Select 1 answer:

Do you think McShane is rubbish?
Yes or Yes

Do you worship Eamonn Dunphy?
Yes or No

and so on...

Also, just throwing this out there but is Ireland's 'retreat into shell' approach in qualifiers whenever they take the lead now just the accepted norm in international football? Certainly in Europe anyway I’d say.

Italy did it last night (and would most likely have done so with 11 men as well); we did it against Bulgaria, Georgia did it against us; Turkey did it to their cost last night against Spain; England too suffered from this and got lucky after conceding an equaliser.

Sure, Ireland are defensive but I think it's a trend across international football and not, as RTE's panel may have you believe, some invention of Trap.

Dunphy and the boys got it completely wrong last night in every way. As you say, the subs were totally on the ball and showed trap knew exactly what he was doing rather than chancing his arm. It was disrespectful and ignorant of the lads to suggest trap is some sort of joke figure when he's achieved so much. I think the man was totally justified last night.

Personally I dont think it's as easy as saying we should play like that all the time. Italy a man down and gone ultra defensive is a different game to a dangerous Bulgaria who need to win. I neither expect nor want us to be pushing so many bodies forward in Sofia.

Good point jumpthefence, the disrespect towards a coach who has won everything from a former assistant manager at Rovers was uncalled for, petty and considering the sniggers after Trap's post match interview, had a hint of vague racism about them as well.

A, thankfully rare, poor showing all round from RTE.

I imagine LUHG will be first in the queue for this film: http://www.101greatgoals.com/videodisplay/2309006/

It was funny tho when Eamo tried to convince Gilesy that Niall Quinn had scored against Holland in Germany in 1988! He then kept digging a deeper hole then by claiming that Quinns goal not only put Ireland into the next round of Euro 88 but he was actually at the match!!!
Now everyone of a certain age, and not yet senile, knows that the Dutch knocked us out of said tournament without Niall Quinn kicking a ball in anger. Dunphy had a fucking bigger nightmare last night than Andy Keogh and that's saying something!

Without wanting to turn this into a list-of-reasons-why-Dunphy-is-a-twat type of thing, did anyone notice how he criticised both the selection of Keogh in the starting XI and his removal, practically in the same breath?

Thanks for the link Marko, looks good. Still my best ever moment supporting United is the 96 cup final, obviously not the 86 minutes of nervous tedium before the primal scream when Eric swivelled his hips and buried the pool.It remains the most pissed I've ever been in my life too, happy days!

Dunphy is a clown, he can be amusing at times, but gone off the deepend on this one. Worrying is that Giles is agreeing a lot with him now...

lets hope this complicated second place thing works in our favour: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(UEFA)#Ranking_of_second-placed_teams

Wouldn't it be great to play Scotland in a play off? AT least we'd have a chance.

Oh and come on Georgia.

Do you ever watch a Euro's or WC and say to yourself, christ if only we were there because none of teams really have the bottle? Well, we have seen Italy don't have it and Bulgaria are fragile to say the least so we shouldn't be talking about Georgia etc re second place. Can't see any reason why we can't win this group. May need a win in Sofia and beat the Italians at home but that's not beyond the realms of possibility. On second thoughts, c'mon GEORGIA.
